Short Battlefield Tour Videos
Last year, Paul Woodadge launched WW2TV and invited me to go over to Normandy and record various short videos for it, at a few different locations. These are all available on You Tube, but they are also featured here as basic introductions to their subjects. The first of these videos addresses the events at Pegasus Bridge on D-Day.
Please note, there is one slip of the tongue ! In the initial description of firing the gun at the Benouville Chateau, I mention it being Wagger Thornton when of course it was Wally Parr, although without realising it, I do actually mention the correct name just afterwards when standing at the gun.
I’ve just returned from a D-Day tour with Leger battlefield tours, where the first tour location was Pegasus bridge it was a very moving experience being at the place of the very first action to liberate Europe from the Nazis.
Our tour guide Mike Collins also gave an in depth explanation of the assault on the bridge including the ‘vital’ actions of Wagger Thornton, this video however has additional information that fills in the gaps from my tour, so thank you.
Hello Gary, thanks very much for the message. I hope you enjoyed your tour. Glad the video was of some help. If you’d like to learn further about the events at the bridge on D-Day, I’ve just published ‘Pegasus Bridge’ which is really the culmination of 20 years of investigation. I also do bespoke 6th Airborne Division tours (via ag1944battlefieldtours.com), the next of which will be May 25. If I can help any further with anything, please let me know. Best wishes, Neil.
