Jeff Haward MM at the Reichswald grave of his great friend, Frank Dollin.

Over the weekend the Taxi Charity for Military Veterans took a host of veterans to the Netherlands to take part in their Liberation Day commemorations. During one of the trips, they visited the Reichswald Cemetery. My uncle, Jeff Haward, 1/7th Middlesex, served throughout the war, as had his best friend, Frank Dollin, up until the February 1945 battle in the Reichswald. In the forest, Frank was very close to Jeff when he was hit by a sniper. At great self-risk, Jeff crept towards his friend, but on getting there, found that Frank had been killed instantly. Jeff of course, has never forgotten him.

The following wonderful photograph, taken by Dick Goodwin, shows Jeff at Frank’s grave.
