A Short Film describing the D-Day Capture of the River Orne (Horsa) Bridge.
Here is another of the films made for WW2TV that describes the capture of the River Orne (Horsa) Bridge by the 2nd Oxf and Bucks shortly after midnight on D-Day.

Hi there Neil.
My dad was in the glider that went off target and landed quite some distance away at another bridge. I have been looking for more info on this but can not find anything. Are you able to help in this?
Thanks.
Chris johnson.
Hello Chris, thanks very much for the message. Marvellous to make contact.
Before I answer your question, have you read the chapter on it within The Pegasus and Orne Bridges ? It’s just that I don’t want to tell you information that you may have read before.
Also, have you any wartime photographs of him ?
Best wishes,
Neil.
My Grandad was also in the Glider(4) that got pulled off course and landed in the River Dives which happened to be next to a farmhouse full of German soldiers where my Grandad was held Prisoner in a Cupboard under the stairs! He then went to a Stalag for the rest of the war.
His name was Pte.John Lathbury.
Hello Russell, thanks very much for your very interesting message. I’m in the process of updating The Pegasus and Orne Bridges and would love to include your grandad’s story. Would it be possible to let me know it in more detail ? Also, do you have a wartime photo of him ?
Thanks for any help.
Regards,
Neil.
